Scuba diving keeps getting more exciting with Mermaids Dive Center, Pattaya. Experience the opportunity to dive for an hour in the Pattaya Aquarium alongside Leopard Sharks, Nursing Sharks and Turtles. Take the opportunity to feed Eagle Rays and be there in the tank at main feeding time. This trip departs from Mermaids, Jomtien on the 2nd April 2009 at 10.00am. The Mermaids BBQ on Wednesday 15th April was a night to celebrate. The Songkran Festival has started with lots of people getting wet during the day underwater and then on dry land as well. Everyone is looking forward to the 19th which is the main celebration day but all are getting lots of practise in now.

Everyone was also recovering from having the US Navy diving and doing courses with us the weekend before, what a great event, 100’s of people coming through the doors each morning for 3 days! Lots of American friends were made and a pity they weren’t in town long enough to join us for our BBQ.

Joining us for their first Mermaids BBQ are Kristina Kirk, Travis Mamone , Hannah Hughes and Sam Beer and Ivan Ivanushkin. Welcome to Mermaids guys and getting through the last week and for getting so involved in everything.

Naomi made a guest appearance, good to see you again and Mike was still celebrating the birth of Baby Jordan. We still haven’t managed to find out who the mysterious BBQ eater is, he or she have kept a low profile but we are sure they will be revealed one day. However, check out the photos and see who the most likely suspect would be!

Thanks to everyone who helped out on the evening, our chef Vlad who almost set the place on fire and had everyone running for the extinguishers, he did blame it on the sausages this time but the jury is still in on that one. Thanks as usual to everyone who made the salads etc, and of course a big thank you to everyone for attending and taking part with the US Navy.

Mermaids Dive Center took part in Dive into Earth Day on Wednesday 22nd April in which volunteers from over 100 countries worldwide take part to celebrate our ocean planet and put underwater conservation on the Earth Day map. Mermaids chose the south side of Koh Sak (a near island in Pattaya) to clean up.
15 people took part in the clean up and were all organised and ready to go with the essential clean up items and of course determined to make their difference on this special day.

Following the brief set out, everyone dived in with their clean up kits and set about collecting trash from the seabed. As always all items are carefully examined before removing them from the seabed as they may contain life within.
After 2 dives and the tally was made, over 70 plastic bags, 65 plastic bottles, 120 pieces of building material, items of clothing, lots of fishing line, 30 light bulbs and again the fan belts were put into rubbish bags to be taken back to the port to be disposed of or recycled by our fantastic Mermaids 1 crew. Overall 400 kg’s of rubbish was collected

Other items removed included a toy gun, cards, sock, cassette tape, clothing and an anchor. The most unusual item found on the day was a ceramic pot.
Our wonderful cleaners saved a star fish, crab and baby lobster all found alive but trapped inside abandoned fishing nets. They were all released back into the water into safe areas.
