Congratulations to PADI Instructors Vicky Masters, Leah Samet and Ailsa Wilson - Mermaids FIRST all female IDC.
Vicky and Ailsa both joined Mermaids in August 2008 as non divers to Instructors and Leah as Open Water certified in November 2008. These 3 young ladies will be remembered for taking part in all activities that came their way including the huge International Clean up Day in September 2008, a fabulous US Navy Ball and Pattaya’s first bed race.
Vicky has stayed on at Mermaids to complete her MSDT, IDC Staff and IAHD Instructor program.
During their IDC, they certainly kept the Course Directors and Staffies entertained. In the classroom the favorite contact was about horse riding and whilst getting carried away, comments like “whips and saddles are as essential to riding the same as deep diving”! Yes, all the guys are looking forward to going deep diving with this delightful new instructor.
Confined water teaching presentations are definitely the favorite and someone misinterpreted one of the Course Directors and taught half the rescue course instead of one small segment - it was all taken in good jest.
For the Open Water segment, what could go wrong here? One of the candidates struggled with her students and a bit of current, which carried them away from the line. This would be quite interesting to see the reaction of the next appointed Instructor. Gamely accepting the role, she looked around for the line which of course was nowhere to be seen. Everyone watched as the color drained from her face and a stressful fear and panic rapidly set in. Not to be defeated she slowly took her students in the right direction by sheer good fortune completed her skill with a really good passing score.
Congratulations also to William Hudson and Gaute Bjerk on becoming IDC Staff Instructors.
Needless to mention they all passed the IDC and composed themselves to have a wonderful IE and in true fashion had a great party and celebration with many of their friends here at Mermaids. From all the Mermaids Team, we would like to thank them for their time, the unforgettable moments they have given us and once again congratulate them on becoming PADI OWSI’s. They will always fondly be known as the “Mermaids Angels” Another 100% pass rate for Mermaids.
