Clean up pattaya Mermaids Dive Center

International Clean Up Pattaya 21st September 2019

Scuba Diving and Clean Up Pattaya

The second week of International Clean Up Pattaya Day 2019. We had both students and staff of all ages from Harrow International School Bangkok and Regents International School Pattaya attending.

PADI and Project AWARE

The Regional Manager from PADI, Neil Richards has been joining us here at Mermaids Dive Center for the past three years. Both PADI and Project Aware have always been  impressed with how this Beach Clean Up can make such a huge difference. To our oceans, marine life and the Pattaya Community here in Thailand.

Neil provided the briefing for the students, mentioning how important it is to help try and better our local environment. Keep our oceans clean and how we should all strive to make an effort to improve our attitudes towards waste in our everyday lives.

What happened this week?

Spread across four boats were a mixture of 170 divers, snorkelers and beach cleaners. All committed to making positive change. We definitely had the weather in our favour as we headed out to our adopted dive site of Koh Sak.

All four boats were moored and our Snorkeling teams could jump straight in and start removing trash from the shallow waters. Whilst making their way to the beach, led by our snorkel guides. Our Scuba Diving teams could also jump in to begin the Underwater Clean Up.  They stayed in the immediate area close to the boats. Our non-swimmers boarded our separate safety speedboat and begin the Beach Clean Up.

Trash beach clean up Pattaya

Once our Scuba Diving teams returned from their first dive, everybody (including our snorkelers and beach cleaners) headed back to the boats for lunch, relaxation and a group photo.

After a hearty and delicious lunch, prepared for us by our amazing on-board cooks, everyone gathered some more energy to get straight back to work. Cleaning more of our awesome aquatic world. A few people actually had to help rescue some poor unsuspecting octopus. They were trapped inside glass bottles and returned back to their natural habitat in the sea!

How did we do?

For our second week, we are proud to announce that altogether, we collected over 530kg of trash from our Beach Clean Up and Underwater Clean Up!

We here at Mermaids Dive Centre Pattaya want to thank Harrow International School Bangkok and Regents International School Pattaya for helping us out today!

Mermaids Padi AwardAlso this week, Mermaids was presented an award from PADI for Outstanding Contribution to the Diving Industry for 2019. So a huge congratulations to all the staff here and everyone involved! Well done guys!

It’s not our first award from PADI. But, we are really happy that we have satisfied and happy divers scuba diving. At Mermaids Dive Center, we love happy people. Dive with us too, here’s where we go. We go diving everyday at Samaesan or Pattaya.
