Mermaids Koh Chang Trip February 2019
Another amazing trip down to the beautiful island of Koh Chang for our wreck lovers weekend. With 6 dives on this stunning wreck over the weekend, it makes this Mermaids Trip the perfect little getaway weekend and it doesn’t matter what certification level you are.
The HTMS Chang, formerly know as USS Lincoln, is a massive tank landing craft. After being used by the US Navy in WWII and the Korean War, the ship was decommissioned and sold to the Royal Thai Navy in 1962. After nearly 50 years of service, in November 2012 the Thai Navy intentionally sunk it four miles of the coast of Koh Chang. Not only as a new dive destination, but also as a marine conservation effort. She is 100 meters in length, the crow’s nest at roughly 25 meters high and rests in roughly 30m of water. It is a wreck junkies paradise because of her large cargo hold, 3 main decks, 7 sub decks, and abundance of marine life.
Divers of all ages met at the shop Friday and we travelled down to the pier for the crossing. After breakfast the next morning, we boarded the boat and everyone was soon in the water for their first dive, checking out the local marine life and the more experienced doing wreck penetration. This weekend was also the perfect opportunity for some of our divers to get their PADI Wreck Specialty Course done and dusted.
It’s an awesome weekend. We arrange everything from accommodation, diving to the transport. You can also leave straight after work on Friday and join us there. You will arrive back in Pattaya or Bangkok on the Sunday evening, ready to get some sleep to be back at work on Monday.
Thanks everyone old and new for joining us and we are looking forward to our next trip in November 2019.
